Pregnancy & Infant Loss Therapy in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Ohio and Texas

The grief of losing a pregnancy or baby is unlike any other. Whether you’ve experienced a miscarriage, TFMR (termination for medical reasons), stillbirth, or infant loss, the heartbreak can feel unbearable — and often invisible to those around you.

Friends and family may not know what to say. Some may tell you to “move on,” while others avoid the subject altogether. Meanwhile, you’re left carrying a pain that feels isolating and overwhelming.

You don’t have to go through this alone. With compassionate, specialized support, you can honor your loss, process your grief, and begin to find a path forward.

What Grief After Pregnancy or Infant Loss Feels Like

Every loss is unique, but many parents describe:

  • Deep sadness, emptiness, or guilt

  • Feeling like no one understands

  • Anger or resentment toward others who are pregnant or announcing babies

  • Replaying “what if” questions over and over

  • Physical reminders (like due dates or baby items) triggering waves of grief

  • Fear or anxiety about trying again in the future

  • Feeling disconnected from your partner or support system

This isn’t something you can just “get over.” Pregnancy and infant loss counseling provides a space where your grief is seen, validated, and supported.

It’s also common for grief to come with anxiety or intrusive thoughts, especially during pregnancy after loss. Learn more about Perinatal Anxiety Therapy or Perinatal OCD Therapy.

How Therapy Helps After Miscarriage or Pregnancy Loss

As a pregnancy loss therapist, my role is to walk alongside you through grief, never rushing your healing process. Together, we will:

  • Create a safe space to talk openly about your loss without fear of judgment

  • Honor your baby’s memory in meaningful ways

  • Work through guilt, anger, or isolation that often follow miscarriage or infant loss

  • Learn coping strategies for triggers and milestones (due dates, anniversaries, holidays)

  • Support your relationship with your partner or loved ones as you both grieve differently

  • Explore what it feels like to move forward while holding space for your loss

Grief doesn’t disappear — but with the right support, it can become something you carry with more compassion and less loneliness.

Why Specialized Support Matters

Many therapists understand general grief, but pregnancy and infant loss is a unique experience. Without specialized knowledge, parents are often left feeling dismissed or misunderstood.

I am a Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C) therapist through Postpartum Support International, with advanced training in pregnancy and infant loss, grief counseling, and trauma-informed care. I’ve also personally experienced pregnancy loss, which allows me to approach this work with both clinical expertise and heartfelt understanding.

I offer pregnancy loss counseling, miscarriage therapy, and grief counseling in Austin, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Denver, and statewide in Texas, Colorado, and Illinois through secure online sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pregnancy Loss Counseling

Isn’t grief after miscarriage something I should just “get over”?
No. The loss of a pregnancy or baby is profound and life-changing. Grief is not something to “move on” from — it’s something to learn to live with, and specialized therapy can help you process it in a supportive way.

How is miscarriage therapy different from regular grief counseling?
While general grief therapy can be helpful, miscarriage and pregnancy loss counseling focuses specifically on the unique emotions, physical reminders, and social challenges parents face after baby loss. This specialized approach ensures you feel fully understood.

Can therapy help me if I’m considering pregnancy again?
Yes. Many women experience intense anxiety, fear, or guilt when thinking about trying again after loss. Therapy provides support, tools, and a safe space to process these feelings at your pace.

What if my partner doesn’t grieve the same way I do?
It’s common for partners to express grief differently. Therapy can help you navigate these differences, improve communication, and support your relationship through this difficult season.

Does virtual therapy work for grief?
Yes. Online grief counseling allows you to access specialized support from the comfort of your home. Many clients find it more convenient and less stressful than in-person appointments.

If you’re experiencing panic attacks or intrusive thoughts along with grief, I also offer Perinatal Anxiety Therapy and Perinatal OCD Therapy.

You don’t have to carry this grief alone.

Online Grief Counseling CO, IL, TX

I am Cheryl Reeley Licensed Clinical Social Worker and I help women who have experienced pregnancy loss to grieve the loss of their pregnancy and baby, to feel that their experience is worthy of acknowledgement and to process the trauma that is controlling their lives. My clients are able to talk freely with me about their loss without the fear of being told that they can try again or that everything happens for a reason. I listen with an open heart and sit in the painful moments with them. I incorporate Cognitive Processing Therapy and journaling into sessions as a way to continue the healing process outside of the therapy room. The flow of my therapy style is creative and fluid, providing a unique experience for every woman. My clients feel a sense of relief even after their first session.

For several years I worked in a hospital setting in the Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic, Labor and Delivery, and the NICU. I have walked with women throughout all stages of pregnancy that do not follow the expected journey that ends in bringing a baby home. This experience allows me to authentically meet my clients where they are at this moment in time.
